Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, good value. Make no mistake, most Ashley furniture is veneer and table is too. But I must say they have mastered the process. It's flat and smooth, but the wood grain is clearly visible just as solid wood grain. We chose the 5 year chip/damage protection and that's enough confidence for me. The legs are solid wood as with the matching chairs. For the price, you can replace it in 5 years. Not sure what someone was doing to the top who complained of it being soft. We are happy with the product. We have also purchased Ashley veneer furniture that we've had now for 12 years or so. It has lasted just fine and is still going strong. Sure you cannot refinish it, but is that what you really want to do with used up furniture?
