How to Wash a Quilt
Like duvet covers, sheets and other bed linens, quilts are generally machine-washable. However, always check the label in case! Before you put the quilt in the washing machine, spot treat stains with a fabric cleaner or baking soda and water. Then stuff the quilt in your machine and use mild laundry detergent to protect the colors and integrity of the fabric. Use the gentle cycle to make sure the machine doesn’t cause damage to the precious fabric. Once washed, place the quilt in the dryer with a set of dryer balls to fluff it up while it dries.
What is the Difference Between a Coverlet & a Quilt
The main differences between quilts and coverlets are thickness and size. Quilts feature patterns and designs that usually reference rustic and country motifs. Generally, cotton quilts are made by separate pieces of fabric that are sewn together to make one large piece. Coverlets are thin blankets that are put on the bed like a typical bedspread. But coverlets are smaller in size and generally cover only the mattress. Unlike quilts, coverlets don’t provide a lot of warmth; rather they’re more of a decorative addition to the bed.
